Why and How to Update Your Blog?

Why updating your blog is important?

There are various reasons why keeping your blog updated is important. Here are the main three reasons:

#1. Google always ranks the most relevant, best, and highest-quality content higher in its search results. If the data and information in your blog post have become outdated and are no longer relevant, your ranking in the search results is bound to drop after a while. The more up-to-date pages will be ranked higher in search results.

#2. There are many blogs that get even more than 90% traffic from organic search and referrals from Google. Obviously, you’ll lose such traffic if your rankings drop in search results.

#3. If you don’t update your posts, you can’t impress new readers. Though you are not going to lose traffic or search engine rankings because of outdated posts, the number of conversions such posts may receive will definitely decrease.

So, how to update your blog?

There are many methods you can use to update your blog. But here in this blog post, we’ll be discussing three main techniques to keep your blog up-to-date. Those three techniques are:

  1. Find time to post daily
  2. Taking advantage of publishing tools
  3. Hiring guest bloggers

Let’s get started.

#1. Finding Time to Post Daily

Scheduling time to post blogs on a daily basis is one of the most important ways to keep your blog up to date. This is because there are many readers who expect new posts, if not on daily basis, then at least several times per week.

There are two types of bloggers:

First are those who allot a specific block of time each day to research, write, and publish.

And second, are those who plan on accomplishing tasks when they find time to do so.

If you belong to the first category, you are more likely to have a blog that is up to date than those belonging to the second category.

Also, the days in which you are unable to publish a new post on the blog will be less frequent if you have a block of time strictly dedicated to keeping the blog up to date.

And on days on which you are unable to devote time to blogging, you can just publish a short message explaining why it was not possible to post a new blog entry.

This will help your readers know that you are well aware of their desire to read more information. It’s just that you are unable to publish a new blog post.

But you need to make sure that this doesn’t become a regular occurrence. Skipping a day or two isn’t going to make your visitors stop viewing your blog.

#2. Taking Advantage of Publishing Tools

With the help of blog publishing tools, you can write your blog posts ahead of time and schedule each post to be published at a specific time.

Such tools could be very helpful if you want to publish new posts daily but are unable to dedicate time each day to writing blog posts.

You just need to dedicate a block of time each week to write blog posts. And such tools will help publish your blog posts throughout the week.

This is one of the easier methods to keep your blog up to date because you are able to be more efficient this way.

#3. Hiring Guest Bloggers

Guest bloggers may also help you greatly in keeping your blog up to date.

If you are also interested in providing your readers with little variety, hiring guest bloggers is always a worthwhile method.

If you opt for this method of keeping your blog up to date, you need to carefully consider how your readers react to this change.

Why? This is because some readers may not be interested in reading blogs written by a guest blogger. And in that case, the use of a guest blogger could be more detrimental to the blog than not updating the blog regularly.

But how can you gauge reader reaction to the use of guest bloggers?

Here are a couple of different ways:

One method is to poll your readers about the use of guest bloggers. You can do this by asking the readers to comment on the issue and tabulating the comments received.

Another method you can use is to introduce a guest blogger and compare the traffic the guest blogger receives to the traffic you receive.

Final thoughts

I hope this post helps you greatly in updating your blog.

No doubt you’ll need to work hard to produce a lot of valuable and high-quality content. But just producing content isn’t enough. There comes a time when even the best content of your blog loses its relevance. You end up ranking poorly in search results and receive low amounts of traffic and engagement.

You can use the techniques discussed in this post to update your blog and prevent it from becoming irrelevant and less engaging.

What other methods do you use to keep your blog updated? Do let me know in the comments below.
